Noi Briggs Obituary – Newport News, VA

NEWPORT NEWS – Mrs. Noi Morton Briggs, 85, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, April 10, 2005 at Riverside Regional Medical Center. She was born in Garner, NC, and lived in Newport News for over 65 years. Mrs. Briggs was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, where she was active in the Truthseekers Sunday School Class, Lunch-with-the-Bunch, the Forever-Young Choir and the Sarah Tatem Group and made her faith an important part of her life . She enjoyed serving on various committees and was known for her sweet potato casserole and chocolate cake. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Irene Ryals; husbands, Percy Guy Morton and John Milton Briggs; and a daughter, Melissa Morton. Survivors include two daughters, Myrtle Weaver and her husband, Willard, of Newport News and Virginia Morton of Goochland; and a grandson, Todd Weaver of Leesburg. Other surviving family members include her brothers, Jack Ryals of Cocoa, Florida, and Forrest Ryals of Raleigh, NC; her sister, Bonnie Archer of Max Meadows; and a special “sister,” Rebecca Ryals, also of Raleigh. The family will receive friends at the Peninsula Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home by the Rev. Stephen Crane, followed by burial at Peninsula Memorial Park. Memorial donations may take the form of contributions to the American Parkinson’s Disease Association, 1250 Hyland Blvd., Suite 4B, Staten Island, NY 10305, or Calvary Baptist Church, 4700 Huntington Ave., Newport News, VA 23607.
