Obituary of Richard Hamlin – Providence, NY (1955-2015)

Richard “Dukes” M. Hamlin Sr. PROVIDENCE – Richard “Dukes” M. Hamlin Sr. of Providence NY passed away at home surrounded by loving family and friends on Saturday, May 23, 2015, the day after his 60th birthday. Born May 22, 1955 in Niskyuana NY, he was the son of the late Beatrice Nelly Martha (Selke) Hamlin and Walter (Dudley) Rourke Sr. He grew up in Rotterdam before proudly serving his country in the US Army. He began his 17-year military career during the Vietnam War, serving two tours in Germany, one tour in Korea and multiple locations in the United States. In his later years he remained busy working for a few local companies in the capital region. He was an avid hunter, woodworker and mechanic. He also enjoyed fishing, hanging out with friends and bothering Rich’s friends, Justin, Ryan and Gerard, and others. Left to cherish his memories are his children, Michael (Pam) Wright of Albany, Richard M. Hamlin Jr. and his daughter Rylie Caprice Hamlin of Providence, NY, Ricky Savage Jr., and his children “Boog” and Ryah, and Shannon Torres of Schenectady, NY; his brothers, Wesley Hamlin of DE, Ronald Hamlin of CA, Donald Hamlin of CA, Gary Hamlin of OH, and Marty Hamlin of NY; his sisters Landyce Dumar of Saratoga Springs, Susan Andi of Saratoga Springs and Deborah Boules of MD; and beloved brother-in-law Peter Dumar Sr.; his best friend Mark (TwoMac) MacIsaac of Milton; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins ​​and extended family. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his longtime girlfriend Charlene Lowery, and dear friends Michelle Lewellen and George LaFountaine. A memorial service will be held at the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at 1:00 PM with Rev. Dr. officiating. Wesley Hamlin, followed immediately by a celebration of life to be held at the American Legion, Post 70, 34 West Ave, Saratoga Springs, NY.
