Nashville cannabis restaurant Buds & Brews is opening a new location in Five Points

Buds & Brews’ THC-infused cocktails, wings and sauces are on their way to East Nashville. The city’s first cannabis restaurant will open its second location later this month in Five Points, owned by Tennessee company Craft Cannabis.

“While customers can expect the same attention to detail and quality of food, beverage and service that they have come to expect at our original location, we plan to make it a venue that showcases the incredible local talent in Nashville, Craft Cannabis President Michael Solomon said in a statement.

The restaurant, located at 1024 Woodland Street, will take over the space previously occupied by 3 Crow Bar. The institution closed in 2023, two years after almost all of its longtime employees abruptly quit due to leadership changes.

Before that, 1024 Woodland was Shirley’s Bar, which became Slow Bar in 2000. Slow Bar was known for its live music, booking bands like The Black Keys and Kings of Leon just before they hit their stride.

Buds & Brews first opened in 2022 with its Germantown restaurant, which featured 25 THC-infused sauces that could be added to any menu item.

While Tennessee lawmakers have been hesitant to legalize marijuana in the state, Buds & Brews is creatively working within the law to bring its THC experience to customers.

Why selling THC products is legal

Here’s how it’s legal: All products are 100% derived from hemp and contain less than 0.3% Delta-9 THC.

In 2018, Congress passed the Hemp Farming Act, classifying all industrial hemp with a THC concentration of less than 0.3% as legal in the US. Here’s how Buds & Brews can operate since marijuana is illegal in Tennessee, and how variants of Delta-8 and Delta-9 cannabinoid products are available for sale in states where marijuana has not been legalized for recreational use.

“We are a grower, manufacturer and retailer,” Solomon told the Tennessean in 2022. “We grow hemp, extract it and sell it.”

The company plans to offer upscale bar food and a curated “experience that reflects the history of the neighborhood” at the East Nashville location.

Although live performances won’t be the focus of the original Buds & Brews in Germantown, Solomon said the East Nashville venue will host musicians and comedy shows to honor the building’s past.

The new spot will also be home to the 5 Points Beer Garden, an outdoor space with more than 40 beers on tap, including many local Nashville beers. Also for sale are Craft Cannabis’ new THC-infused cocktails, created in collaboration with a brewery in Chattanooga.

The soft opening of the restaurant and bar will take place in the coming weeks, and on June 29, Buds & Brews East Nashville will officially open to the public.
