Cougar Warning issued for the Tunnel Mountain Campground area

Banff National Park has issued a cougar warning for the Tunnel Mountain Campground area.

The park recommends that people in the area take extra caution to avoid encountering a cougar by traveling in groups, remaining vigilant at dawn and dusk and carrying bear spray.

The warning has been issued for all trails, facilities and campsites in the Tunnel Mountain area and along the Tunnel Mountain bank, which border the town of Banff.

Park staff advise people who see a cougar to face it and retreat slowly, make themselves bigger and be aggressive and make noise.

Sightings should be reported to Banff’s 24/7 emergency center at 403-762-1470.
