Morris/Sussex Athlete of the Week poll, voting, results

It’s time to vote for the Morris/Sussex Athlete of the Week!

Read which performances stood out and let us know in the poll at the bottom of this page who you think should be Athlete of the Week.

The nominations come from coaches and are presented in alphabetical order. Voting closes on Thursday at 6 p.m.

Capp Desheplo

West Morris junior pitcher

Capp was a double winner at the North 2, Group 3 Championships, taking home the shot put (personal best 54-10¾) and discus (161-0).

Esther Kirk

Morristown senior distance runner

Kirk won the North 1, Group 4 1,600 meters (5:09.08) and was fourth in the 800.

Ryan Miller

Wallkill Valley sophomore pitcher

Miller allowed four hits and struck out 10 in 8⅓ innings of Wallkill Valley’s 1-0 win against Kinnelon in a North 1, Group 1 quarterfinal. He also hit a walk-off double to send the Rangers to a semifinal appearance.

Joseph Nigro

Mountain Lakes freshman pitcher

Nigro threw a personal best of 171 feet, six inches to win the javelin at NJSIAA North 1, Group 1. The only freshman in the finals, his throw is No. 1 among New Jersey freshmen this spring.

Redjee Geenz

Hackettstown senior sprinter/jumper

Nonez won the triple jump (44-4) and the 110-meter hurdles at NJSIAA North 2, Group 2. He was also part of Hackettstown’s third-place 4×400.

Zoe Turner

Morris Hills junior pitcher

Turner pitched all three of Morris Hills’ NJSIAA Tournament games last week, allowing 12 hits, two walks and five unearned runs while striking out 18. At the plate, she went 2-for-10 with a walk, three stolen bases and a run scored.

Maya Van Hoorn

Madison junior distance runner

Van Horn won the 1,600 (5:13.33) and finished second in the 3,200, scoring 18 team points to help Madison claim the NJSIAA North 2, Group 2 girls team title.

Callie Volker

Morristown senior pitcher

Volker allowed eight hits and nine walks
