Disaster Unemployment Assistance Now Available in Bell, Henderson and Tyler Counties Due to Impact of Recent Severe Weather | texasinsider

Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN, Texas The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) is accepting applications for Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) in three additional counties affected by the severe storms, straight-line winds, tornadoes and flooding that began on April 26. Explanation of the disaster now includes Bell, Calhoun, Collin, Cooke, Denton, Eastland, Guadalupe, Hardin, Harris, Henderson, Jasper, Jones, Lamar, Liberty, Montague, Montgomery, Polk, San Jacinto, Trinity, Tyler, Walker and Waller counties.

Employees and self-employed people in the designated provinces Those who have not been able to work due to damage caused by the storm may be eligible for a DUA benefit. Private individuals can apply for benefits online via Unemployment benefits services or by calling TWC at (800) 939-6631 between 7:00 AM and 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Individuals must specify that their applications are related to damage caused by severe weather. Applications for DUA benefits on the basis of this statement must be submitted no later than July 16, 2024.

DUA, This is an unemployment benefit specifically made available to victims of disasters and is available to persons who:

  • Have applied for and used all regular unemployment benefits, or are not entitled to unemployment benefits;
  • Worked or was a self-employed person or was going to work or become a self-employed person in the disaster area;
  • Can no longer work or provide services due to physical damage or destruction to the location as a direct result of the disaster;
  • determine that the work or self-employment that they can no longer perform was their main source of income;
  • Not being able to work or be self-employed due to an injury as a direct result of the disaster;
  • Become the breadwinner or main support of a household due to the death of the head of the family; or
  • Cannot reach their work or self-employed location because they have to travel through the affected area and are prevented from doing so by the disaster.

To receive DUA benefits, all required documentation must be submitted within 21 days from the day the DUA application is submitted. The required documentation includes the social security number and documentation to support that you were working or self-employed when the disaster occurred, or were about to start working or self-employed but were unable to do so due to the disaster.

TWC must have documents showing that you were at work, or that you were planning to go to work, at the time of the disaster. If you do not send us proof of employment within the 21 day period, TWC will stop DUA payments and you will be responsible for repaying any benefits you have received. In some cases, TWC may use information from our system, such as payroll records, to prove that you were employed at the time of the disaster.

Submit your proof of employment through TWC’s online UI Submission Portal for the fastest assessment. Select DUA proof of employment at the time of disaster from the Submission Type drop-down menu. If you cannot use the online portal, you can submit the proof by fax or by post.
