Dr. Lancaster is a leading healthcare professional at Providence St. Peter Family Medicine in Olympia, Washington, where he has held the distinguished title of faculty pharmacist since 2018. In this role, he interacts with patients to help them achieve their health goals related to diabetes, hypertension, cholesterol and other chronic diseases, and directly supervises the second-year pharmacy resident who specializes in outpatient care. He began his career as a pharmacy technician at Fred’s Pharmacy in 2005, where he fell in love with creating partnerships with his patients. He gained valuable experience before transitioning to a pharmacy intern at Kroger Pharmacy in 2010 after enrolling in pharmacy school. In 2014, Providence St. Peter Hospital welcomed him with the rank of PGY-1 pharmacy practice assistant, and through 2018 he also excelled in a concurrent role as on-call pharmacist at Fred Meyer Pharmacy. In 2015, he transitioned to the position of PGY-2 ambulatory care pharmacy resident to pursue specialization in outpatient medicine. After residency, he established pharmacy services at the West Olympia Family Medicine clinic while tending the hospital’s intensive care unit on weekends. He served in this hybrid role for two years before advancing to his current appointment as a faculty pharmacist at St. Peter Family Medicine in 2018.

As a pharmacist, Dr. Lancaster primary care physicians and thrives in collaborative care models. He is a critical member of the clinic’s complex case review team, a multidisciplinary team consisting of a pharmacist, behavioral health professional, physical therapist, nurse practitioner and nurse care navigator. The assembled experts discuss patients at high risk of readmission on a weekly basis and have contributed to a significant reduction in hospital readmissions since the team was founded in 2016.

An exceptional academic education prepared Dr. Lancaster in his clinical and leadership roles, including a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from Union University, which he completed in 2010. He also holds a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, which he proudly completed in 2014. Industry certifications define Dr. Lancaster further, including board certification in advanced diabetes management from the Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists and board certification as an ambulatory care pharmacist from the Board of Pharmacy Specialties.

Dr. Lancaster maintains vital networks through membership in the Washington State Pharmacy Association, the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists and the American College of Clinical Pharmacy. He is a year-round volunteer for Camp Leo, providing a safe summer camp experience for elementary, middle or high school students with type 1 diabetes. He is the medical director of the primary school camp session each year and since 2017 he has also been a member of the medical planning committee.

An affinity with teaching is a lasting motivation for Dr. Lancaster, and he is excited to be part of the pharmacy and medical residency programs that are training the next generation of primary care physicians and ambulatory care pharmacists. He is humbled as he observes the professional and personal growth of his residents and then follows their progress as they begin their practice. Dr. Lancaster remains committed to further supporting each resident as a dedicated educator and colleague. In 2022, he was recognized by the graduating medical residency class with the Distinguished Teacher in Family Medicine Award.
