Elizabeth McLEOD obituary – Rockville and Vernon, CT

MCLEOD, Elizabeth Elizabeth “Betty” Margaret McLeod, 66, of Vernon, beloved daughter of Marguerite (Davenport) McLeod of Vernon and the late John McLeod, passed away peacefully Sunday (July 4, 2010) at her home. Born in Providence, RI, she lived in Newport, RI before moving to Vernon over 57 years ago. Betty was a graduate of Rockville High School, class of 1962. She received her bachelor’s degree from Bates College in Lewiston, ME, class of 1966. Before her retirement in 1994, Betty was employed by Aetna Insurance Company in Hartford for 30 years. . She attended St. John’s Episcopal Church in Vernon. Betty was an avid golfer. She was a member of the Cedar Knobb Women’s Golf League and she was also a member of the Southern New England Women’s Golf Association. In addition to her mother, Betty is survived by her sister, Linda Phelps and her husband, William of St. Augustine, FL; a nephew, Erik Phelps and his wife Laura of Fairport, NY; a niece, Kathryn Hall and her husband Jonathan of Canmore, Alberta, Canada, and many cousins. Her family will receive friends during calling hours on Friday (July 9, 2010) from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Road (Route 83), Vernon. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, July 10, 2010 at 11:30 AM. Burial will be in Grove Hill Cemetery, Vernon. Memorial donations in her memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford, CT 06492 or to the American Diabetes Association, 306 Industrial Park Road, Suite 105, Middletown, CT 06457.
